June 26, 2009

The Kurita Water and Environment Foundation has announced that a recipient of its 2009 scientific research prize is associate professor Hideki Koyanaka of the Takano Lab at Kyoto University's Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences (iCeMS).

The Foundation established the prize to recognize "water and environment" themed scientific studies, research, and international exchange efforts that contribute to the creation of vibrant water resources and regional environments through the use of applied technologies. Prizewinners are chosen from a pool of previous grant recipients, recognizing the exceptional accomplishments that have been achieved through their research. Dr. Koyanaka received a grant in fiscal 2005 for his study of the "Development of water purification technology using a meso-porous material structured with protonic manganese dioxide."

The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on August 28, 2009 at the Keio Plaza Hotel in Tokyo.
