A British consular delegation paid a courtesy call to Kyoto University's Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences (iCeMS) on November 30 to learn about the institute's research focus and international collaboration efforts.

The delegation, consisting of Science and Innovation Consul Ed Thomson and Mr. Ed Sumoto of the Osaka consulate general, and Ms. Sachiko Yoshida of the embassy in Tokyo, met with iCeMS Director Norio Nakatsuji, Administrative Director Shinji Tomita, Innovation Management group leader Shintaro Sengoku, and others.

Following a brief presentation of the institute by Dr. Nakatsuji, a wide-ranging discussion took place covering cell biology in the mesoscale, ongoing cross-disciplinary projects at the iCeMS, and possibilities for expanding joint collaboration with institutes and researchers in the United Kingdom. Both parties agreed to maintain contact, with an aim toward extending future scientific cooperation.
