Japan Tops Latest Nature Asia-Pacific Publications Ranking, with Kyoto U. Third in Institutional List

March 28, 2011

The science journal Nature published its Asia-Pacific Nature Publishing Index 2010 as an annex to its March 24 issue, including rankings by country, institution, and journal for papers originating from the Asia-Pacific region. Japan ranked first in the country list (first also in 2009) and Kyoto University ranked 3rd in the list of top 200 institutions (2nd the previous year).

In the list of Nature family journals, Kyoto University ranked among the top five for Nature, Nature Chemical Biology, Nature Chemistry, Nature Geoscience, Nature Materials, Nature Medicine, Nature Neuroscience, Nature Photonics, and Nature Physics.

Most notable is that the university ranked first with seven papers for Nature Communications, a journal with particularly strong emphasis on crossing the boundaries between physics, chemistry, and the life sciences, among which two papers (1 and 2) were produced by the Kitagawa Lab of Kyoto University's Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences (iCeMS).

In addition, the annex includes six pages highlighting Kyoto University and the World Premier International Research Center (WPI) Initiative.
