[Invitation] WPI booth, workshop at 2013 AAAS annual meeting in Boston

30 January 2013

Japan's science ministry and six leading research institutions, including Kyoto University iCeMS, will be hosting a booth to present the World Premier International Research Center Initiative (WPI) at this year's American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) annual meeting, which will take place at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, MA on 14-18 February. The WPI centers will also be co-oraganizing an exhibitor workshop.

The WPI booth -- open on 15-17 February and located at the Exhibit Halls C-D as part of the Japan pavillion organized by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) -- will showcase the latest advances of a range of research at the WPI centers, as well as their efforts to create an open environment where scientists of all levels can interact and collaborate across borders and disciplines.

The workshop -- held 15 February, 2:30 pm-3:30 pm at Room #205 and entitled Extenal LinkJapan: your next career destination? -- aims to present three of Japan's most prestigious academic organizations: Riken, the University of Tsukuba, and the WPI. These organizations are in the vanguard of Japan's science and technology and offer ideal career opportunities to foreign researchers. The workshop will also provide a space for discussion, with a question and answer session about life in Japan.

Both the WPI booth and the workshop are open to all meeting attendees. Please come join us and see what we have to offer!

About World Premier International Research Center Initiative (WPI)

Launched in 2007 by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), the WPI aims to attain the highest levels possible for scientific research environments at six designated centers. This bid to achieve "global visibility", including attracting the world's best brains, also seeks to create a new model for Japanese academia, imparting greater autonomy to each institution in order to spark transformations in leadership, administration, and operation. As of January 2013 there are nine WPI centers designated by MEXT. Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) is commissioned by MEXT to conduct the program's grant selection and project assessment processes and to perform other administrative functions.
