Susumu Kitagawa wins RSC de Gennes Prize

 The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) recently awarded Susumu Kitagawa, Kyoto University Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences (iCeMS) Director and Graduate School of Engineering Professor, the 2013 RSC de Gennes Prize for his "creative development of advanced functional porous materials." The ceremony will be held on November 8, 2013 at a hotel in Brighton, UK. Kitagawa is also scheduled to give lectures at up to four universities in the UK from October 2013 to May 2014.

RSC is a renowned, self-governed professional body for chemists and the RSC de Gennes Prize, first given out in 2009, honors individuals for outstanding and exceptional achievements in materials chemistry. Other major awards in the field conferred by the RSC include the Corday-Morgan Prize and Harrison-Meldola Memorial Prize. Previous winners of the RSC de Gennes Prize include Profs. Matthew Rosseinsky of the University of Liverpool in 2009 and Steve Mann of the University of Bristol in 2011. Kitagawa is the first Japanese recipient of this prestigious honor.
