The Extenal LinkHirose International Scholarship Foundation has selected Dan Ohtan Wang, iCeMS Assistant Professor and Kyoto Research Fellow, as one of the first recipients of their research funding program. The selected project is entitled "Visualizing effects of learning on gene expression in the brain." The ceremony took place in Tokyo on June 13th.

Since 1995, the Hirose International Scholarship Foundation has granted scholarships to over 140 foreign nationals from Asia who studied in Japan. The funding program was established last year to support talented younger researchers who stayed in the country after finishing their degrees to pursue a research career. Five were chosen from a broad range of disciplines. A total budget of 36 million JP yen will be granted; Wang will receive 10 million JP yen in the span of two years.

"I was still a teenager when I chose to study in Japan; at the time, I could not even imagine that in 20 years, I would be getting research support in the way of funding I am about to receive now. I am very lucky and grateful."
