123rd iCeMS Seminar: Dr. Toby D. M. Bell

The first part of this talk will focus on a new, versatile and potentially very useful class of fluorescent molecules based on core-substituted naphthalene diimide (SANDIs). SANDI based molecular systems capable of proton sensing as well as acting as polarity probes will be presented. The behaviour as single molecules of a number of SANDI based molecular systems will also be discussed. In the second part, the lecturer will present some recent results on using a small peptide to rupture liposomes that have been rendered fluorescent through incorporation of a water soluble SANDI molecule.
