194th iCeMS Seminar: Dr Kazue Yamagishi

Accumulation of reducing sugars and amino acids in tumor tissue causes non-enzymatic reaction, which produces a great amount of gaseous sulfur-containing compounds such as methanethiol and hydrogen sulfide. These toxic compounds mutate P53 gene and result not only cancer proliferation in the tumors but also distant cancer metastasis by whole-body diffusion. Amount of gaseous compounds is eight times larger in the flatus of colon cancer patients than those in the flatus of healthy individuals, and increases with the cancer stage. We therefore propose a new therapy, "Medical Gasology" for cancers, achieved by removing excess gaseous compounds from the body.
