iCeMS holds its 24th International Symposium “Emerging Science for Unlocking Cell’s Secrets”

On September 3, iCeMS held its 24th International Symposium “Emerging Science for Unlocking Cell's Secrets at the iCeMS Main Building. Although the program was cancelled on the second day due to the typhoon, more than seventy people from inside and outside Japan participated in the first day program.

In the opening remarks iCeMS Director Susumu Kitagawa explained the Institute, which strives to create a research field linking materials science with cell biology, and WPI Academy Director Toshio Kuroki presented an overview of the WPI, which aim to conduct the world’s highest-level research through international research environments. After that three sessions were held on the themes of Microscope Development and Application, Control Cell Behavior, and Tissue Engineering. Nine scientists presented their latest research results and lively discussions took place after each presentation. Coffee breaks were held between the sessions, allowing participants to proactively discuss possible joint research and other topics in a friendly atmosphere.
