Research Interest

Bio-imaging, Visualization of inter- and intra-cellular signal transduction

Upon perception of extracellular signals at the plasma membrane, cells will divide, differentiate, or sometimes, commit suicide. We study the underlying mechanisms by which the extracellular signals are transferred both within cells and between cells. For this purpose, we develop biosensors based on Förster resonance energy transfer to observe the molecular activities under microscopes.

What I like about my science

It is just like the Pokemon game. I am looking into the body to find something nobody has ever seen. For this, I need to use some items that no one has. So, my lab members are developing the items that we call PHOGEMON.

Researcher Q & A

Where are you from?

I was born in Kagoshima and grew up in several cities in Kagoshima, Kumamoto, and Miyazaki prefectures.

Why did you become a researcher?

Honestly speaking, I was arrogant to think, in science, there must be something great that only I can achieve. I regret to have thought so.

What is your favorite experiment, theory, device, reagent, lab equipment? Why do you like it?

I like anything new, but do not stick to something special.

What is your hobby?

I love “The Earthsea Trilogy” by Ursula K. Le Guin. The wizards in this fantasy must be Scientists in the real world. I wanted to be a wizard.

I love mountaineering.
