Research Interest

X-ray Crystallography, Synchrotron Science
To develop useful function materials in the world, it is so important to understand the details of structure in atomic scale. The structure of materials can determine using X-ray. Especially, high flux synchrotron radiation X-rays can visualize very tiny material grain like invisible by eyes. We are conducting research on a new measurement and analysis method that enables direct observation of electron behavior under actual operation by precise experiment using synchrotron radiation X-rays.

What I like about my science

The key point to solve the properties of functional materials lies in the behavior of atoms and electrons. Synchrotron radiation X-rays can directly visualize the atomic ordering and the electron density distribution like a microscope. The good point of our research is useful for elucidating the origin of the physical properties and for designing of materials.

Where are you from?

I was born and raised in Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture.

Why did you become a researcher?

When I was a student, I analyzed the crystal structure of synthesized new materials as if I completed a jigsaw puzzle. I can’t forget the impression when the crystal structure become clear.

What is your favorite experiment, theory, device, reagent, lab equipment? Why do you like it?

My favorite experiment is single crystal X-ray diffraction experiment. I choose the best single crystal sample. When I look at the first diffraction image of the crystal and the spots are beautiful, I'm shouting in my mind "Ya-Sha!"

What is your hobby?

I like watching movies. But, recently, I don’t have time for it. In particular, I like action movies because they give me thrills that I would never feel in my daily life.
