Kyoto University's Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences (iCeMS) will serve as a co-organizer of the World Stem Cell Summit (WSCS), which will take place this year at the San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter in San Antonio, Texas on December 3-5.

The 2014 WSCS marks the third time iCeMS will be a co-organizer and the 10th meeting held to date. The Summit, put on by the Genetics Policy Institute (GPI), brings together all of the key players involved in advancing the regenerative medicine field, including industry leaders, patients, lawyers, researchers, and philanthropists, to name a few. More than 1,500 attendees from over 40 countries are expected to attend the event, which will feature talks from over 200 presenters and panelists, an awards dinner, poster forum, networking opportunities, and an exhibition hall.

"We are honored that Kyoto University's iCeMS is participating as an organizer of the World Stem Cell Summit. This world-class, interdisciplinary research center has pioneered the field of mesoscopic sciences, and their work is a driving force for progress in stem cell research. With an international team of scientists from across the globe, it is fitting to have their leadership and expertise in the planning of the 10th anniversary World Stem Cell Summit," said Bernard Siegel, Founder of the World Stem Cell Summit and Executive Director of GPI. "Professor Norio Nakatsuji is an extraordinary researcher and leader in the field and we are thrilled to have the benefit of his expertise as a WSCS co-chair."

"The World Stem Cell Summit has become a must-attend event for Japan's top researchers. In fact, our participation again as a co-organizer is a product of the high-level international connections we have forged at the Summit. Importantly, this meeting serves as a platform enabling iCeMS to showcase its recent research achievements, such as the development of a novel three dimensional culture system, to help meet the growing demand of quality human pluripotent stem cells needed for drug discovery and regenerative medicine. I am very honored to serve as co-chair of the World Stem Cell Summit again," said Professor Norio Nakatsuji, Founding Director of Kyoto University's iCeMS and co-chair of this year's WSCS.

Other co-organizers include GPI, The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Mayo Clinic, and BioBridge Global.
