Indonesian National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Delegation Visits iCeMS
On September 24, 2024, a delegation from Indonesia's National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the Japanese infrastructure consulting firm Yachiyo Engineering visited iCeMS to explore scientific collaboration.
Distinguished Professor Susumu Kitagawa of iCeMS welcomed the delegation led by Professor Bambang Subiyanto (BRIN, former Acting Chairman of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences) and introduced the institute’s research, focusing on porous coordination polymers (PCPs) and their wide range of applications, including gas storage. He explained how fundamental research on PCPs is advancing in Japan, while application and commercialization are progressing both domestically and globally.
Following that, Dr Joddy Arya Laksmono, Senior Researcher and Director of the Research Center of Polymer Technology at BRIN, discussed Indonesia’s progress in developing porous materials and their potential to address environmental challenges. He also talked about BRIN’s collaboration with the Indonesian Ministry of Health, where they are exploring the medical applications of PCPs to improve healthcare.
The delegation then toured iCeMS’ research labs, guided by Associate Professor Takayuki Homma. The tour included an explanation from Associate Professor Takahiro Fujiwara on the cutting-edge microscopy developed through iCeMS’ collaboration with Zeiss.
iCeMS hopes this visit will help foster a positive relationship with Indonesia, contributing to the advancement of science and technology in the future.
