Kyoto Professors Meet Bright Minds at Talent-Spot 2025 in Mumbai

On January 5, 2025, iCeMS hosted "Talent-Spot 2025", a student interview event held at the Meluha the Fern hotel in Mumbai, India. This series offers overseas students the chance to meet Kyoto University faculty members face-to-face. This year’s event marked the first time iCeMS served as the main organizer, with the Institute for Chemical Research (ICR) participating as a co-host. Together, they brought nine faculty members from iCeMS and the ICR to meet 17 students selected from a talented group of applicants.
The program opened with a presentation by Prof Motonari Uesugi, Director of iCeMS and also a professor at the ICR, who introduced the two institutes' research activities and environment. Staff from the university’s Admissions Support Office followed with an overview of student life in Kyoto, as well as the admissions and scholarship application processes. Prof Ganesh Pandiyan Namashivayam also shared details about the "KU-STAR" internship program, which provides unique opportunities for students to study at Kyoto University, encouraging participating students to take advantage of the various international education programs on offer.
Following the introductions, the main event began: one-on-one interview sessions between professors and students. During these sessions, students rotated between faculty members to discuss their research interests and future aspirations. They actively asked questions and received valuable advice on advancing their studies and pursuing graduate programs.
Participants expressed their enthusiasm for the event. One student remarked, “This was truly a great opportunity. The professors listened carefully and gave thoughtful guidance. I’m inspired to study in Kyoto.” Faculty members were equally impressed, noting the students’ exceptional talent and motivation.
