Dr Packwood to receive Hiroshi Fujiwara Prize for Mathematical Sciences

Kyoto University iCeMS Junior Associate Professor Daniel Packwood was selected as the recipient of the 5th Hiroshi Fujiwara* Encouragement Prize for Mathematical Sciences.

This prize is founded in 2012 to accelerate application of mathematical sciences to industry or solutions to social problems. Packwood was awarded for his work in the “study on structural and functional correlation of materials by mathematical science.”

The awards ceremony will be held on October 1, at Keio University in Tokyo.

* Hiroshi Fujiwara: The president of Internet Research Institute (IRI). He is one of the key contributors to the global standardization of MPEG digital video compression technology and was an early architect of Japan’s Internet hardware system.
