[New article available] First Author Interview: Dr Yuya Higashi

A new article has been added to “First Author Interview”. The new interview is with Dr Yuya Higashi of iCeMS Tamanoi Lab.

In the series, we invite the first authors of a recently published manuscript for a letter-based interview on their work. In particular, we ask the author to tell us the behind-the-scenes story of their manuscript, as experienced personally by the author but not communicated directly in the manuscript.

Yuya Higashi is working on the development of new radiotherapy methods with the iCeMS Tamanoi lab at Kyoto University. For this study, he developed a method to efficiently cause breaks in the DNA by generating electrons inside cancer cells. He found that when they used this method to cause breaks in the DNA of cancer cells, the cancer cells died within a few days, leading to the destruction of the tumor mass.
