iCeMS Internship Program: Interns Deliver Final Presentations
On July 25, iCeMS hosted the final presentation of this year’s Internship Program. The event kicked off with a warm welcome from Prof Kazumitsu Ueda, who greeted the attendees and introduced the talented student researchers who spent the summer deepening their skills while conducting hands-on work in five different laboratories at iCeMS.
The presentations covered a wide range of cutting-edge research. Cid Hernandez (who worked with Namasivayam Lab) from the University of the Philippines discussed using liposomes for PIP drug delivery and studying reactive oxygen species. Aoi Tomoeda (Uesugi Lab) from UCLA shared insights on synthesizing small molecules for cancer treatment. Ivan Li (Suzuki Lab) from Imperial College London explored protein scrambling activity. Weijia Gao (Tamanoi Lab) from Oxford University introduced a novel drug delivery system for cancer. Divija Nanavati (Kengaku Lab) from the Indian Institute of Science presented on dendritic pruning mechanisms.
The presentations were attended by iCeMS members including lab PIs, faculty mentors, and fellow researchers who supported the students throughout the internship. Many attendees were impressed with the quality of work the students were able to undertake in such a short time. And mentors commented on the enthusiasm and intelligence with which they pursued their research in the lab.
After the presentations, Divija shared her experience of presenting her research, expressing a mix of nervousness and enjoyment, and mentioned her intention to recommend the internship program to others when she returns to her country.
