[Invitation] WPI Exhibit Booth at 2012 AAAS Annual Meeting

February 13, 2012
WPI booth: Exhibiton Hall B1, February 17-19, 10:00 am-5:00 pm
Japan's science ministry and six leading research institutions will be hosting a booth to present the World Premier International Research Center Initiative (WPI) at this year's American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) annual meeting in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
The WPI booth will showcase the latest advances of a range of research at six WPI centers designated by the ministry, as well as their efforts to create an open environment where scientists of all levels can interact and collaborate across borders and disciplines.
The AAAS annual meeting, entitled Flattening the World: Building a Global Knowledge Society, will feature an exceptional array of speakers at the Vancouver Convention Centre from February 16 to 20. The WPI booth -- part of the Japan pavillion organized by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) -- will be located at the Exhibiton Hall B1 and open on February 17-19.
The WPI centers are: Tohoku University Advanced Institute for Materials Research (AIMR),
The National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) International Center for Materials Nanoarchitectonics (MANA),
The University of Tokyo Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe (IPMU),
Osaka University Immunology Frontier Research Center (IFReC),
Kyoto University Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences (iCeMS), and
Kyushu University International Institute for Carbon-Neutral Energy Research (I²CNER).

About
WPI
Launched in 2007 by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), the WPI aims to attain the highest levels possible for scientific research environments at six designated centers. This bid to achieve "global visibility", including attracting the world's best brains, also seeks to create a new model for Japanese academia, imparting greater autonomy to each institution in order to spark transformations in leadership, administration, and operation.
About
AAAS
The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) -- founded in 1848 and based in Washington, DC and Cambridge, UK -- is an international non-profit organization dedicated to advancing science around the world by serving as an educator, leader, spokesperson and professional association. In addition to organizing membership activities, AAAS publishes the journal Science, as well as many scientific newsletters, books and reports, and spearheads programs that raise the bar of understanding for science worldwide.
