Yuta Takano to receive Osawa Prize

iCeMS Program-Specific Research Center Assistant Professor Yuta Takano will receive the 13th Osawa Prize from the Fullerenes, Nanotubes and Graphene Research Society.

The Society focuses on nanocarbon materials. Osawa Prize is given out to young researchers who have presented exceptional research related to fullerenes, spherical molecules composed entirely of carbon atoms.

Takano’s presentation, titled "Utilizing a caged electron spin of an endohedral metallofullerene for molecular location sensing", was about utilizing the unique characteristics of metal atoms caged in fullerenes’ carbon cages. This research is hoped to lead to new molecular tools that can detect movements of intracellular substances and elucidate biological functions, or molecule-based magnets that can contribute to the further development of quantum computers.

The awards ceremony will be held at the University of Tokyo on March 2, 2017.
