Join us in pioneering a new integrated cell-materials science

iCeMS was established in 2007 as part of the Japanese government’s World Premier International Research Center Initiative (WPI). Since then, we have been pioneering a new scientific field that integrates “cell biology”, which seeks to understand life phenomena through the properties of cells, with “materials science”, which explores the functions of substances based on their structures.

Over the years, iCeMS has produced prominent fundamental researchers, such as Professor Shinya Yamanaka, a leader in stem cell biology, Professor Susumu Kitagawa, a pioneer in coordination space chemistry, and Professor Mitinori Saito, an expert in synthetic biology. Moreover, many of our young researchers have also presented valuable and unique findings. One of the key factors supporting these achievements is the research environment iCeMS has developed through continual trials.

We actively embrace bold, new ideas and strive to create an environment where young researchers can gain enriching research experiences and expand their expertise.

The outcomes of fundamental research often hold the keys to addressing various societal challenges. At iCeMS, we are working to bridge our research to technologies that protect the health of people and the planet by promoting startup establishment and business development, aiming to create a more sustainable and livable society.

iCeMS is venturing into the realm of the unknown, beyond the boundaries of fundamental research. We are calling on friends who understand and support our endeavors to explore the unexplored. Won’t you join in the challenge that lies ahead and pursue new vistas in science and technology alongside us?
