Kyoto University – VISTEC Student Joint Seminar

Shun Tokuda and Kotoha Kageyama provide a warm welcome

On February 23, Kyoto University – VISTEC Student Joint Seminar on Functional Materials was held at Smart Materials Research Center at the Vidyasirimedhi Institute of Science and Technology (VISTEC), Thailand. Smart Materials Research Center was established by iCeMS under the Kyoto University On-site Laboratory initiative. The workshop was organized by five students from both institutes, including Kotoha Kageyama (Graduate School of Engineering, iCeMS Horike group) and Shun Tokuda (Graduate School of Engineering, iCeMS Furukawa group), and was supervised by Dr Hiroyasu Tabe of the Horike group and Dr Kanokwan Kongpatpanich of VISTEC.

Ten students from iCeMS and VISTEC talked about the research involved in their master’s and PhD thesis. Students exchanged questions and ideas regarding their research activities, laboratory life, and future dreams.

Dr Tabe remarked in the closing that the symposium was driven by students’ curiosity and friendship as well as an official, strong collaboration under the on-site laboratory initiative. Dr Kongpatpanich especially thanked the guests from iCeMS. Prof Thanit Pewnim, assistant of the VISTEC president, emphasized that collaboration through the on-site laboratory project has moved to a new stage from senior faculty members to students and young researchers.
