Professor / PI
Biophysics, Systems Biology
Progress in biology is supported by the development of new technologies such as DNA sequencing and mass spectrometry. Our laboratory aims to promote this progress and illuminate novel aspects of biology by developing innovative technologies based on multiple academic fields.
What I like about my science
I like that our sciences addresses essential biological questions from a broad array of standpoints, including biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, computer science, informatics, and more.
Researcher Q & A
Where are you from?
Minami Village, Gujo County, Gifu, Japan (Present: Minami Town, Gujo City, Gifu, Japan)
Why did you become a researcher?
I became a researcher because I am interested in the mysterious existence of "I". I want to understand why I exist even though I am just an assembly of molecules.
What is your favorite experiment, theory, device, reagent, lab equipment? Why do you like it?
I like to develop new technologies. I have a deep attachment to everything that I have created, including optical microscopes, next-generation sequence analysis methods, large-scale computer simulation methods, machine learning methods, high-throughput measurement devices and analysis software, collections of cell lines, and single-molecule theories.
What is your hobby?
I enjoy traveling, hot springs, and driving. I recently took up shogi (Japanese chess). I have a great interest in the differences in thinking ability between humans and artificial intelligence.
