ShanghaiTech was established by the City of Shanghai and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 2013. SPST especially focuses on materials sciences, photon physics, and condensed matter physics and conducts fundamental research to solve energy and environmental problems at the global level.

iCeMS delegation including Director Susumu Kitagawa and Prof Easan Sivaniah attended the signing ceremony, as Vice-president Jie Yin of ShanghaiTech and Director Peidong Yang, Prof Tsung Chia-Kuang, Assoc Prof Franklin Kim and other researchers of SPST.

On the day they also held a symposium to celebrate this new bond. The symposium involved not only researchers but also students, and each scientific presentation was followed by lively discussions.
