French Maison de la Chimie awards Susumu Kitagawa the Grand Prix

iCeMS Director Susumu Kitagawa was awarded the 2018 grand prize from the French Maison de la Chimie (House of Chemistry).

The prize, Grand Prix de la Fondation de la Maison de la Chimie, is an international prize meant to honor original work in chemistry, of benefit to mankind, society, or nature.

Kitagawa was awarded for his work on the design and synthesis of functional porous materials known as "porous coordination polymers (PCPs)" or “metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), with innovative properties in photochemistry, catalysis, separation techniques of gas mixture.

This is the fifteenth time that the prize has been bestowed, and the 2018 Prize was given to Kitagawa and Professor Thomas Ebbesen of the University of Strasbourg. The winners received the award with a bronze medal at the ceremony held at the Maison de la Chimie in Paris on February 13, 2019.
